Change of address query

Getting ready to move house and am writing letters to all the banks etc about it. Just anxious to know if there is a set/preferred order for driving licence, insurance company and V5 stuff.

I would appreciate advice on this though I am assuming that letters all going out at the same time is sufficient.

Thanks

If you set up Royal Mail redirect then it won't matter. I did insurance company first and the others a couple of weeks later.

When I have moved I have phoned the insurance company on the day that I moved in to get the insurance transferred. Changing the address on my driving licence and vehicle registration has never been such a high priority, and I've tended to do it within a month or so of moving in. I guess it probably should be done straight away but I have moved a lot and this has never been an issue.

Edit: I see no point writing to the insurance company rather than phoning. There is pretty much bound to be a charge, so doing it over the phone means you can pay this straight away and know it is all sorted.

Great, thanks. Already have the redirection sorted from previous house to current temporary address. Changing address officially to new address can now be done as the renovations are coming to an end and I now have a box for mail to into. It's a rural area and no letter box on/in the front door.

Thanks for your advice, it's all clear now. :T

As far as your insurance is concerned you need to tell them when you will be moving to the new address (rather than that you can receive mail there now a box is available)

They will want to know the date the car starts being kept overnight at the new address.

Car insurance can be done online, I have just changed cars rather than address with Aviva online and it did not cost anything, whereas if you phone them there could be an admin charge.

    You were fortunate.

Although making changes online with some companies avoids the admin charge, a change of address or car is a material change and usually does spark a premium alteration (up or down).

(And not all companies offer an online service for mid term changes)

That will obviously vary with insurer, I couldn't do that with mine. It's obviously something to check for though if it saves paying a fee :).

There may also be a charge due to a change of insurance cost at the new address, not just an admin fee.

    Edit: cross-posted with Quentin.

I was shocked because I went from 03 reg Ignis to a 12 reg i10.
