O/S Daily Sunday 2nd March 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now getting light, looks cloudy and we’ve had some rain during the night, so damp underfoot. After the foggy start yesterday, the sun came out and it was really pleasant in the sunshine if you were out of the wind – today doesn’t look like it will be as nice.

Work was ok yesterday, it was steady but not horrendously busy and we got away on time. Back to work tomorrow for me.

We had chips from the chippy when I got in from work, the portions were huge – as we were all so stuffed no-one wanted a big dinner last night – the menfolk just had cheese on toast and I had cheese and crackers. Remembered to get the beef out to defrost, so I will make a slow cooker casserole this morning so it will be ready when we get back this afternoon, I will serve it with pots and veg. Have a menu plan in place, which can be flexible if needed. I’m right at the end of my grocery budget so really need to get through this week without spending any more money, as I don’t have enough to do a shop next week – but having checked through the figures, I had done a few stock up shops and haven’t divided the cost of the coming months that I will use those items – ie, have bought a sack of potatoes – they will last 6-8 weeks, mega pack of toilet rolls (28), dishwasher tabs (78), bulk meat purchase from butcher – all those costs have been included – I won’t use all of those purchases in 1 month, think I’m just going to do my best for this month and when I start again next month will divide the costs of any bulk purchase over the amount of weeks/months I expect that item to last us.

Visited the outlaws and my parents yesterday afternoon. When we got back last night spent some time on pc and doing some admin work in preparation for the caravan meeting we’re going to this afternoon.
Had another small win on the pc on line games, so waiting for that to hit the bank account.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

It's dry here again today so far, yesterday was sunny but cold & I managed to get some of th washing dry on the line.
DGD is still here, DD has my car, she needed it for work last night, so she'll bring the car back & collect DGD at the same time.
I need to do some housework today as I got nothing done yesterday, apart from putting a supermarket delivery away.
I've made another couple of ebay sales, another £9 for the coffers, 'this time next year I'll be a millionaire', NOT.
Moorhen, congrats on the 'outstanding' it's not easy hitting the moving targets that ofsted set & the stress levels induced can be horrendous.
    Have a lovely day everyone
    Hugs Hester

Frosty but bright down here in Kent. Off out to lunch with our son, just back from working at Sochi, am glad he is back given the trouble brewing there.

It's good to be able to out the washing out on the line, doesn't take much to please me!

Happy Sunday to all and hugs to those that need them.

Raining a little here, yesterday was fab up to about 4pm, I got 3 loads of washing dried on the line. What a difference now the big tree has gone, felt like it was getting more of the wind to it. (How sad am I?).
Spent most of yesterday stripping wallpaper, will do the same again. Made macaroni cheese for tea and DD made some rather lovely cupcakes - just been clearing up the mess! I think I may buy a whole chicken for today's dinner as I haven't had one for ages.
Builder came yesterday just to fill some holes so the shelves are ready to paint so I suppose I will have to go and get some!

Hope you all enjoy your Sunday. Take care. XX
  • Good morning all.
Feeling might brighter today, dh saw I was down so took me out for a surprise Chinese meal at my fav place. He also brought dd a pizza takeaway as she did not want to come with us so she was happy curled up watching a movie when we got back.
I remembered to get the chicken out of the freezer for today's roast, so will be putting that in soon.
Shopping delivered OK apart from the dog food so nipped into town and got that, so set for the month now.
Need to do a bit of washing today so dh has clean trousers for work tomorrow.
Made some dog treats yesterday and they love them so more pennies saved there.
Sitting enjoying a quiet cup of tea while everyone is still sleeping.
Off to get a flask today for dh for work and got to pop into the farm shop and pick up more eggs. And today is our pancake day as we will all be working silly hours on Tue.
Anyhoo better get on and feed the dogs as I can feel them staring at me.
Hugs to all that need them, and once again thanks for all the support when I was down.

    Morning everyone,

nmlc Can I ask how you store your potatoes please? We bought a sack and at the moment they are in a corner in the kitchen, we can't put them in the shed s they will get eaten by mice.

Carolbee What was your son doing at Sochi? I watched loads of the winter olympics.

    Molly, Snoozer, Hilstep Hugs.

I have had a really busy couple of days. Friday night I was out for a meal and last night I was out at a 50th party. I am really feeling it this morning even though I didn't drink anything last night.
LW There was a trainee guide dog labrador puppy at the party last night. He had been brought there to get him used to that sort of situation.

Off to church soon, DD1 and DD2 are playing in the band and DS has a rugby match.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning all,

It's a bit overcast here today. But my washing is done, just needs putting away.
I'm very stiff this morning, it's takes me a while and a hot shower to get going. Youngest is in bed after a late night out with his pals, least he came in quietly.
Have wrote a list of all the jobs that need doing, before June. Once my brother has gone home the house will go up on the market.
We enjoyed the second series of True Crime last night think it's going to be good.
Dd is making macaroni cheese for tea as requested by DGS as he had it at school for lunch and loved it.
I have a couple of birthday cards to buy and post this week.
    Enjoy your Sunday x

Moorhen - I keep the potatoes in the paper sack they come in, and I keep them in our porch. Where we lived before the garage was attached to the house so I used to keep them in there, but can't at this house as although the house is much bigger the garage is much smaller and detached from the house, so have to go trailing down the garden to get to the garage. If you can keep them in the garage/outbuildings, make sure you don't put them on a concrete floor, as in the cold/frosty weather it will be too cold and can freeze the potatoes in the bottom of the bag. In the past I've used part of a wooden pallett to stand them on and then cover them over with a dry old blanket/towel or some of the frost protection fleece, and once the bag is open always fold it down to keep it as shut as possible, as this helps them stay fresh as long as possible. Just try to keep them frost free and dry as possible.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Been awake for quite a while but have been having a read and some snuggles with DGD in bed, while DH watches the Andrew Marr show.

Off to pick a bike for DGD's birthday in a couple of weeks. She has outgrown hers and needs an adult sized bike now and she will only be 11 but DD is very tall and I think GDD is heading the same way.

Chicken in cream and mushroom sauce with cauliflower mock colcannon and some courgettes for dinner. Big cooked brekkie/brunch when we get back from bike hunting.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)
