Does this only scan against the item it is intended for? I know some coupons will and some won't. I'm new to coupons and am just heading out the door to Tescos for grocery shopping. To use this, will I need to buy a book or can it be redeemed against groceries? Thanks

I emailed the book token people and they confirmed that Tesco were not a member of the scheme and the coupons could not be redeemed in Mr T. Whether they are getting the money back on the ones already used is another matter, they are such a big company that they can probably do some kind of deal.

1 Tesco I use has stopped taking them but the other is still fine, don't think I will use anymore now though, enough other coupons around.

I only posted this as I asked at customer services and showed them the coupon and was told it was fine to use. Hope I haven't caused anyone
to have trouble with using this. :o

basically if the voucher code starts 99 it should scan, if you take the last digit of the end, the last digits are the value...if the coupon it'self doesn't tell you. the newspaper threads a good one to keep an eye on for these kind of vouchers

Yesterday (Tues) I called in to a Tesco Extra I've never been to before - out on a journey and just happened to pass it - so dropped in on the way back to redeem the Express coupon of 3 or 4 days ago for my free jar of Sacla Pasta Sauce.

Went to CS desk to enquire what their coupon policy was - said I'd encountered various usage of them over the past year or 2, ranging from 30% off the total (use as many coupons as you like) to ONLY 1 coupon but this could be £3 off a £3.01 bill for example.

They confirmed theirs was the latter - only 1 coupon for a non-purchased product.

I'd got a £4 Daily Mail book token since I'd bought Saturday's edition as per usual for the TV guide (it's about the best in my opinion) so I showed it to them and said "Would this be OK?"

Both the CS staff immediately said they didn't think this was one they could accept. A till supervisor was called and she also had serious doubts that it could be used EVEN if I purchased the book - which she went and verified they actually had in stock - which they had. They decided someone upstairs would definitely know the answer and called them to come down. This person duly arrived - the CHIEF CASHIER for the store - who immediately confirmed BOOK TOKENS are worthless to Tesco.

I thanked them for checking and produced a £2.70 Harper's Bazaar MOC which all of them, including the Chief Cashier, immediately passed with flying colours.

So I grabbed my Sacla sauce, and having found nothing in the reduced section I fancied, picked up a 6 pack of catfood. MOCs handed in at the till - £1.79 off the £1.79 sauce and £2.70 off my remaing £2.98 bill - 28p to pay. Did so, put the bits in the car and went back in to get another 6 pack and use another Harpers £2.70 - another 28p to pay.
£5.40 saved and DM coupon went in the bin on the way out.

NO NEED TO ROCK THE BOAT and LOSE OUT in the long term by breaking the system which will certainly happen if people keep handing in worthless bits of paper! Might just as well print your own £5 notes!

Problems, problems, problems. Does it really matter if people use the online voucher or buy the paper and use that one. At the end of the day Mr T is out of pocket whatever option we use. Bit of a quandary as to whether to give them a go with the Marie Claire on line coupon.

    Sermon:-
at the end of the day we are all ripping Mr T off with these vouchers. Mr T is ripping most suppliers off by taking vouchers so I think we should just live and let live.

As an aside I noticed the old Somerfields are still performing if your really skint and short of coupons. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have had a local tesco supervisor agree that these are OK to use and she has happily accepted mine

Do you have the name of the supervisor and the tesco? I'm in cardiff and have had problems with different supervisors.
