Argos - Don't buy if not in stock




Hi All,



We ordered bunk beds with mattresses and a single mattress for another bed from Agros, delivery time scales was 14 days, but watch out for the two star next to that...

First delivery time slot - Argos called 24hrs before to say the bunk beds were not available and we agreed another delivery date.


That delivery date came and went and no call from Argos. Called their customer service line... Wow!!! within 10 seconds I was depressed the lady called Ann wasn't very customer focused.


Not wanting to go into the detail, but on speaking to three/four different people at Argos we got told three/four different versions, one said it was the bed, the other said it was the mattress.


At no point did they offer a part delivery. Helpful Ann in her happy customer service voice "do you want to cancel" That was the only proactive response.


And Michelle in the "Management Team" Not sure what their remit is, but couldn't offer a solution.




We were also told, that until a delivery time slot is missed, does it flag on their system as an issue. Reactive!!



Argos doesn’t do customer service.


Great if you go to the store and collect the item, but home delivery is very risky


Can Argos offer items for sale, that are not in stock and may not be in stock for more than x period??

  • I have not had personal experience of this but I have notices since Christmas, 3 people on my facebook have had a rant about exactly the same thing!

    I had a similar thing last year when ordering a bed from Argos. The day before delivery was due I had a phonecall to say that they had an issue with a supplier and they had no stock of the bed. They offered to refund, which would take a week or so, but they couldn't tell me which beds were affected by this supply issue so I'd have to keep ordering (and paying for) beds with no idea if they'd arrive or not.
    I'd ask for the refund and go elsewhere if it was me.

  • I used to work for Argos a few years ago so I'm not sure about the process now, but whenever you order something in store being delivered through Argos Direct and you aren't given a definite delivery date there and then, the stock isn't in the warehouse.


    Generally it's not a stocked item so it's ordered from the supplier once you buy it - definitely legal, just like ordering a special part from Halfords or whatever.
