just came home to a missing roof tile, do I call insurance?

Hello all,

We have just come back from a 2 week holiday to find a roof tile has come off and broken on the floor. I'm guessing from the extremely high winds we were having when we left for our hols. I think it's only the one but can't really tell what damage there is without a ladder.

FiL has suggested ringing the house insurers as our excess is only £50 and should cover it but I don't know how much it would be normally? Can anyone help? Iv also never claimed on insurance before so a bit nervous.

Thanks

Personally I would not do it for one roof tile.

You will have to declare the claim in the future.

Is it really worth it by the time you have paid the excess?

Do you have any friendly local builders that would just pop up and replace the tile? It may cost slightly more that £50 but would save a claim on your house insurance over something pretty small.

Someone has just started a similar thread, check the advice there.
I'd check to see what will happen to your insurance next year before making a small claim. They may put your premium up more than the job cost.
