Hi

I'm currently with eon for gas and electricity. I knew that I was in debit on my account, but as the house was going to be empty a lot we agreed to keep my DD at 71 pounds per month. The house has been mostly empty for over 6 months now, although I have left the heating on low constantly over Dec/Jan to avoid any problems with pipes bursting. Now they want to increase my DD to 218 pounds per month  How can this be right?

I've looked at my bill and I'm completely confused, I can't work out their charges.

Please help

G

With the house being empty for 6 months, it's unlikely that the bill you've had is based on an actual meter reading and would have been based on an Estimate

Look for an E against the closeing reading and read the meter to see how accurate the bill is.
If the bill reading is higher than what the meter reads now, get onto Eon and to be re-billed on the meters figures

No they took an actual meter reading last week. I don't understand.

    Hi gwen80

Monthly Direct Debits are worked out based on current prices and usage over the past 12 months. We'll also build in the debt on the account and spread this over the number of months up to your annual review.

The aim is to have as near to a zero balance as possible by the time of the annual review.

Even though the property has been mostly empty for the past 6 months, our calculation will be over a full 12 months. This isn't set in stone, though. We'll be happy to review the payment arrangement based on the changed circumstances you mention.

If you've registered with our website, you may be able to make changes to the payment arrangement yourself. This depends on whether or not the debit balance is part of a formal arrangement.

With a formal arrangement, I'm afraid, you'll need to contact us.

However, if there isn't a formal arrangement, just log in to your online account and go the Direct Debit Manager.

This facility allows you to change the monthly payments by up to 20 per cent up or down, provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings. Or, up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.

Before completing the change, we'll let you know how much we anticipate the account will be in debit/credit by the time of the annual review if the change is confirmed but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

Another way of reducing the monthly payments is if you're able to clear part or all of the debit balance.

If you're able to pay all the balance, the monthly payments can be reduced to cover the usage only. Again, taking into consideration the changed circumstances.

With a part payment, we can spread the remainder over the number of months until the annual review and combine with the ongoing usage.

Hope this helps gwen80. Give me a shout if you need any more details.
