Anyone know anything about AGA's?

So I'm renting and there is an Aga in the kitchen, we aren't really using it at the moment so I decided to turn it off.
I turned it off on Wednesday night by following instructions from an Aga specialists youtube vid... basically lifting a lever on the control box until it clicked, then turning the oil off (which is an inline valve just before the fuel line enters the control box).
This morning there is a strong smell of oil in the kitchen, which is coming from a breeze which is emanating from the vent at the bottom of the flu - on the cooking surface between the two hot plates. It is windy outside which I guess is causing the breeze thru the flu.
Have I failed to do something?
Any ideas why there is a smell of oil coming from the flu?
Thanks.

which is why I suggested the oil board.
There are people there who own or maintain oil AGAs who might be able to help. This board is for property issues so we tend not to be specialists in particular forms of heating boilers.........0 -
If closing the in-line valve hasn't stopped the oil flow, then the valve on the control unit should also be turned as far as possible anti-clockwise.
Personally, I never touch the in-line valve when shutting down at the end of the heating season.
You do realise that it may not re-light satisfactorily without a service now?0 -
It probably has not totally cut off the oil feed , you need to do this or it could cause problems later on. if in doubt ,switch oil off at tank ad contact your landlord. You can get more info on the Aga central forum0

Depending on the supply, there could be a pump to the oil as well. If so, then if the pump wasn't turned off, it will have continued to pump some oil in to the burner, soaking the wicks in oil. Have a look in the burner oven on the bottom left of the AGA. If there is a pump, turn it off at the socket/mains.
I generally find that there's some smell of kerosene with the AGA off, which is simply an oil-soaked wick. When lit, this burns off so the smell is not noticeable. If there's no pump to the oil supply, the smell is likely to be just the oil sitting in the wick.
Missing my AGA ssssssssoooooo much!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

You miss paying 55p per litre for oil, then opening the doors and windows to let the expensive heat out?
That's what I've been doing today.0
