WARNING - DC Servicing (Sussex) - Dyson Service

Options
Wife got a call from this lot implying that they were Dyson themselves and would we like our old DC07 Dyson serviced for just £25. She agreed as it is about 15 years old and we were thinking of replacing it anyway so a service might mean that we could continue using it.

What a RIP-OFF!!!!!!

They came yesterday to do the "service". The guy took it apart and quoted the following needed replacing
  • £22 for a "pre-filter"
  • £35 for a "post filter"
  • £15 for an internal hose
  • £35 for a new electric cable.
  • £10 for new drive belt
  • £40 for new roller/beater bar

Total - £157

This was on top of the £25 "service" charge. Refused all quotes and they reluctantly put it back together and actually put a "free" new drive belt.

So I took a look at it this morning:
Cable was a simple repair with insulation tape.
Both pre-and post filters bought on eBay this morning for just £5.45.
Internal hose bought on eBay for £5.19.
Belt with a brush bar on ebay £8.

VERY, VERY, VERY simple to replace all of these and instructions found very easily on You Tube.

So I have just saved £138 by 5 minutes on the computer

Avoid inviting these sharks in!!

...but if you HADN'T had it 'serviced' you wouldn't have KNOWN those pieces needed replacing and therefore WHEN they failed wouldn't have had a clue what needed fixing.

Hmmmm, maybe, but I think it was more about me being a bit lazy and not investigating it properly first. The "service" seemed a good idea, but there can't be any excuse for their prices.

As for not having a clue, that is probably a bit harsh. 5 minutes on Google this morning found all the help you could ever need.

Just one question. Were all the parts you bought on ebay OEM or copies? Service bloke would have only used OEM bits, as for the cable I doubt he would have used a bit of leccy tape as he would have been responsible if you got a poke from it. Glad you got it sorted so cheaply.

I doubt very much if the eBay items were OEM, patent parts I expect.

fine for DIY, but a professional has to guarantee their work so nothing other than the proper parts would be used - not least for electrical safety.

It does explain why the service bits were so dear, but at those prices it would almost have been cheaper to buy new. I don't think that rip-off is correct though as if he was contacted to dyson in any way he would have had to pay these prices, its quite likely Dyson would specify them.

    So a total of £182.
Or for just under half of this amount, you could buy a refurbished DC07 which comes with a 6 month guarantee!
