No income, struggling to get out of this...

  • No real change here, StepChange phoned yesterday and said they will arrange a DMP for my overdraft if I want to. It was a little weird because they mentioned me owing money to HMRC, I don't, they owe ME money. I'll claim that back this week.

Bank are being fine, apparently they review accounts after 6 months/1 year (stepchange said). I've only been overdrawn for 3 months. I think I will call in and speak to the bank, I would rather pay the charge and reduce it gradually. They have taken to texting me each morning and telling me what is in my account which sets my teeth on edge, I need them to stop that.

Because I have a PO box address I can't sell easily on ebay, which is a huge shame, I have so many clothes which I want to sell. Good stuff. I think I will claim back tax, try to ebay, and get the stamps out of storage (I was left a lot of penny blacks from my father, he always told me to sell them if I needed the money).

I keep looking at everything I have and wondering if I could sell it. I have a teddy bear which is probably worth £80 and I did look at him! I didn't realise he was worth anything. He's just something from childhood.

I also had a man ask if he could buy me recently and even though I would never turn to that - I'd rather be homeless - I did a quick compute in my head and put that into monetary terms. It's ok, I said no.
  • Lol! On a positive note you must be still worth buying! I'm past my sell by date.

It sounds like you still have a lot of options, which is great. Do you have any of those upmarket dress shops, in your area, that sell second hand clothes? Here there is one that will give you the percentage of any sale price.

I challenge you to getting the money off HMRC as soon as possible.

I am glad you have kept your sense of humour x.

  • Yep that's my mission for today, get back tax paid on income earned earlier in the year. Goddamit they owe me that!

I HAVE looked into consignment stores but they don't seem very good; I have a lot of previous stuff when I earned a lot a few years ago, Chanel skirts and Chloe dresses, I think I might have to TRY to ebay despite my PO box problem. I'd have to chase it up every day to ensure I was a good seller.

I was really hoping that my passport and birth cert might turn up but it genuinely seems like I've lost them, I don't know how. So need to get replacement birth cert first then get on with other photo ID.

But that guy was really sleazy??? I couldn't understand him as after he said that he wanted to have some fun and would pay me well, the next time I saw him he wanted to go for coffee. I'm hardly going to go for coffee with him though, am I? He even pretended that he'd taken up smoking and flourished an unopened pack. I was a bit stony eyed and was thinking 'you do NOT smoke'.

He'll have to go off and find a brothel, this is a little bit like walking into a shoe repair shop and asking them to fix your boiler.

    Hi BtSB, :hello:

F@cebook have buy/sell pages for most areas - smaller potential buyer pool but no postage or selling fees (or hassles re PO box address). ;)

    B. Cert isn't difficult. Lucky you to have been sent the funds to pay for passport - please use this gift/help for the intended purpose!
Presumably you haven't got a driving licence (also 'photo ID)?

    Yukyukyuk!
..Well done for walking away from that 'option'!
  • I think I might start trying to sell on ebay but be very cautious about it.

I honestly don't know how I lost my birth cert and passport? I was really hoping they'd turn up but they haven't so far. I'll get a replacement birth cert and take it from there. My birth cert never said who my parents were anyway, I never understood that.

The 'option'...that nearly killed me with laughter. He can sod off. I think some men think that if you've lost your family then you are vulnerable and they can suggest anything. I've had the same problem with the police although I'm trying to call them everyday about the man who assaulted me. They DIDN'T deal with it as he turned up trying to find me this week, which gives me shudders down my spine, evil man. Actually I'm really furious with the police, they made a mistake and are trying to minimise it and it is in no way any sort of protection.

It's quite a lot to deal with on top of credit troubles although I do know that this is first world problems.

I'll crack on with claiming tax back and trying to sell things, thanks x
  • Chanel skirts and Chloe dresses........ I have a cousin who primarily dresses in those two labels and she always looks fab-u-lous.

Would you ever get the opportunity to wear them again, for interviews or as work wear? If so it would seem a shame to part with them, especially if you still fit into them, which, as I am guessing you are a size 8-10, you surely will!!

  • Hello, just read from the start and will subscribe though apologies in advance as some of my posts tend to be quite tongue in cheek. Given that you need the overdraft and are managing it at present, if it were me, I'd keep my head down for a month or two. It just sounds like you've a lot on at present so why give yourself another situation that could be stressful. I remember one of my nephews got some kind of national ID card, it may be cheaper than a passport. Apart from that, just based on what's posted here, I ink you're to be applauded. You've made some very brave decisions and you're still looking forwards. Well done

I don't actually think that I want those clothes, I would rather sell them. At my stage of life I have become very tactile and like being wrapped up in a warm cashmere dress and tights. I'm not a summer person!

Having horrendous issues with police, the man who assaulted me turned up again trying to find me (in a different county, fortunately) this week - I'm afraid I lost my temper and told them that if they'd dealt with this properly first time round then he wouldn't have come back. This might still go to court. Not sure what outcome I want really, just that he never goes near me again.

Oh and money: got overdraft down to £850, have claimed HMRC money back. Need to go in and speak to bank next week but I have to brace myself first. I have managed to get rid of my relative's bills (that was ridiculous anyway as she has large savings) and my phone company offered me a hugely reduced bill, so that is progress. I don't have any other debt at present.
  • You are making great progress! A warm cashmere dress and tights sounds fab-u-lous too!

  • I DO love the cashmere dresses and tights; they're mine now and they all have nicks so I couldn't sell them even if I wanted to, I need my sewing kit but it's in storage.

I had a huge vanity moment this morning and dressed up in a short black cashmere/silk dress, and put on my grandmother's long gold chain and knee high boots, it really made me realise that I do not want to sell my grandmother's necklace.

I want to get back on track and get back to work, I've already had to sell one of my great-grandmother's rings and I don't want to sell any other jewelry.

I had a result this morning, the man I like told me I looked extremely foxy :) He doesn't usually see me when I've brushed my hair, to be fair
