  • Thanks BTSB,

One step at a time. The longer that you leave it to get back into a decent job the harder it becomes, take it from someone who has made this mistake!

You know what you want, so what are your first baby steps to getting there? Any kind of progress is better than the fog of depression which is so paralysing.

    You can do this x.

  • I guess this week I wanted to:

    - look into cheaper alternatives to ID than a new passport (lost passport and birth cert, so stupid)
    - go to dentists and opticians as I think these are subsidised whilst on JSA
    - get referral to IT course asap, which my employment adviser has to do
    - speak to HR of telecoms company which I'm hoping to work for as soon as I've started course and have ID
    - free haircut tomorrow (the nice bit!)
    - not smoke this week without gnawing my fingers off
    - try to sell more things

I saw you have a diary, I will pop off and have a look!

Thanks BTSB, those sound like great goals. As you are in IT do you do project plans.?

You could do one for yourself, I have been meaning to do this for ages. I look forward to watching your inevitable progress, we can encourage each other. I like to come on and type out my thoughts early in the morning, and I have been finding that it is really helping me to keep on track x.

    Hi there,

Just wanted to say hello and offer some words of support. I am sorry that you have lost your confidence of late - it sounds like you have been through some tough times - hopefully you will gradually be able to get back to your normal self. :)

You can get a copy of your birth cert for £9.25 here:
    https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate

If you have lost confidence about working, have you considered doing some volunteer work in a charity shop / school? That way you can find out how you get on without worrying about it actually affecting your employment record. It would also look good on your CV.

Also, I think £1 per day for using your overdraft is a lot of money. When I dip into my overdraft it only costs me interest, which amounts to a pound or two a month. Have you discussed these charges with your bank - I know you said they have been good to you but that's a lot of money.

Good luck with it all. :)
  • Well, this has been weird; the reason why I am in a safe house has turned up this week and it's been all police. I am waiting to see how things turn out and have hiccups. Haven't had them for ten years, need to stand against a wall and drink a glass of water at the same time as holding my breath or however the sayings go!

Bank still being ok, they haven't reduced my overdraft or got sh*tty with me. I need to get back to earning soon though. They have been pretty good and I would hope they would allow me to reduce it over the next 4 months.

Far too much drama though I can't believe he tried to find me again.
  • Oh and I managed to get my bills reduced greatly: I transferred my relative's bills over to her (she has huge savings, I don't know why she wanted me to pay them) and my phone company offered me a hugely reduced rate.
  • Still have hiccups :(

    Stress??
  • Oh BTSB, how absolutely awful for you, what an incredibly difficult situation to deal with.

Do everything you can to build up your confidence and get every bit of help that you can to protect yourself. Are they in custody now?

Considering the circumstances you are doing extremely well to be tackling other things, so well done on dealing with the relative. That is one thing crossed off the list.

Keep going, you are worth it x.

  • You're up, that's nice.

It was two things, I left my partner because he was abusive but I moved away to try to start again but unfortunately only chatted to someone whom I didn't realise might follow me back to my relative's home and assault me. I lost the plot then and went into a safe house.

It wasn't my ex-partner. I wasn't expecting the police thing to kick off again this week but on positives:

    - bank is STILL being ok despite me being o/d
    - hiccups didn't last!
    - some more money will come through shortly
    - have got rid of the large bills
    - my phone provider, without me asking, gave me a hugely discounted rate so no horrible bills
    - haven't had to sell anything else

Have been up speaking to police and musing on it all.

But it might work in my favour that he tried to find me when I wasn't there, I have a witness at last. I had no witness previously that he'd came to where I was staying.

Sorry this is a bit heavy for a diary :o
  • It is your diary, and you can post what you need to, to get you moving forward. I have read quite a lot of posts, on here, about people dealing with abusive relationships and how often that can lead to debt.

Personally, I am really impressed that you are able to pull out all the positives from the situation !!!
