Thought I would run this by you knowledgeable lot.

FIL has an 02 plate Mazda 323 (Demio I believe) EML comes on and a diagnostic has highlighted a problem with the MAF.

Now I know where it is and how to remove and replace but at £150 to replace does anyone know if these can be cleaned to good effect or are these a straight replacement item?

Cheers as usual

  • Clean it by soaking it with IPA (Isopropylalcohol) available at Maplins, or you can buy MAF cleaner from Halfrauds but it's the same stuff at a lot higher price :)

If there is a rubber o ring sealing the maf to the airtube take this off first as the IPA makes the o ring go baggy and it won't seal right.

It's not guaranteed to work but worth a go :)

Don't be tempted to poke anything inside to clean the little wires as they are very delicate.

Dont jump to conclusions. Just because the code mentions the MAF doesnt always mean thats the faulty part.

A dirty airfilter can give a low flow code for the MAF. The wires for the MAF are fragile also so dont direct the spray frok a cleaner at them.
