Do I need to cancel the PPI before I claim?

I want to reclaim the PPI on my Barclaycard, but the PPI is still being charged. Do I need to cancel it first, or can I do that with the claim?
I have tried to cancel it several times over the years and just been ignored. It has a balance of nearly £15,000 on it and the PPI payment is about £150 per month.
Also, it's about £2,000 over the limit. I'm about to pay that this month (and will do anyway), but do I need to clear it before I claim?
I am reasonably confident in the claim as I was told I'd be rejected without it, but my employer of the time offered 12 months sick pay and we had savings.

You do not "reclaim", you complain that the insurance was mis-sold to you. Your complaint reason is the weakest going because you can provide no evidence that you were told you would be rejected without it. You'll also be called upon to provide proof of savings and any employer benefits.I want to reclaim the PPI on my Barclaycard, but the PPI is still being charged. Perhaps I should have been more specific.
I am about to fill in the documentation suggested on this website under the headings "reclaim PPI and other insurance" (hence my use of the word "reclaim" as shorthand) in order to complain that insurance was miss-sold to me.
The basis of my claim is that I was lead to believe it was compulsory, and it's a complaint that has been upheld for other people, leading me to believe there may be validity in my case.
I do have documentation,but not of the phone call where I was (I believe) mislead. .
My question is, having realised the PPI is still being taken off the account, do I need to have it stopped, and then wait for it to take affect before I submit my letter about miss-selling, or can I do both at the same time. Obviously I want it stopped as soon as possible.0 -
Just cancel it as soon as possible. No problem there.
It hasn't been upheld for other people, there will have been other reasons also
You cant actually prove a 'I was led to believe' unless you have something in writing.
If you don't cancel it, you are 'leading them to believe' that you still want it.
Cancel it and send your complaint along with any evidence to endorse it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Actually, very few complaints get upheld on that basis. Whilst many complaints include that as a reason, that particular point is usually rejected due to lack of evidence. Without going into the actual details of your complaint, whether you cancel it or not beforehand makes no difference. The provider will, however, cancel it if your complaint is upheld and you accept an offer of redress.0 -
