I have just registered to urge you along with another to go to a foodbank. They are there for these exact reasons, you do not have to be on benefits. A common reason that people have a food parcel is because of the delay in wages when starting a new job etc. Do not be embarrassed, they really will be happy to help you.
If you are not sure who can give you a referral / food bank voucher where you live, then give your local foodbank a call and they will tell you. The usual places will be Gp surgery, CAB, MP's office, Children's centers etc... Getting a voucher /referral takes a few mins, it's not a long drawn out process and you may even be able to pick up other support and advice for the pickle you've been placed in this month.
Please do give them a try, they will want to help you.0 -

If you have a vegetable peeler, you can use it to make ribbons of carrot (one carrot makes masses) to add to stirfries. Courgettes work well like this too (not cheap atm though). I think it was the Pauper's Cookbook that suggested making a one egg omelette and cutting it into strips to add to stirfry. It works really well, especially if you are trying to work out how to share one egg between 2+ people!
