Selling a house near an untidy car park...

Hi,

I'm trying to sell my house - its a 2 bed terraced house in a nice new development (mixture of terraces, semis, detached, and council homes). I am in a quiet corner of the development but I have a small car park close to my home, which is also shared by the council tenants close by.

Unfortunately as of late the area has become untidy - the green areas need a weed/cut, some of the tenants cars look damaged or abandoned(!), there is some general junk/flytipping outside one of the houses.

I have had a few viewers round who said they love the house, but the feedback is the carpark is putting them off.

I have asked the council to tidy up the area, but I have a feeling I might be wasting my time. Anyone have any suggestions to get the council into action?

Thanks

You could always rent a skip and tidy the place up yourself .Not very pleasant ,but if it gets a result and you sell your house .
I would ring the council and say you are prepared to do this .they may drop off a skip if you shame them by saying you will contact the press

Why get a few of the other tenants the helpful ones to help out with it or how about asking a few friends to help

You can ask the bulky waste people at the council to collect the flytipped stuff.

Keep on about any vehicles that look to be abandoned; have a look at the tax discs to check.

You could always write a letter to the local paper, they'll print anything in my town; they obviously don't get many letters!

Personally, I would be prepared to do a lot of the garden work myself if the pay-off was getting best price for my house - my husband has painted neighbours houses before!

Thanks for the tips - I`m not much of a gardener so I don`t know how much tidying I can do ;)

I have emailed the council so hopefully they will at least remove the junk.

I've noticed one of the cars in the carpark has a tescos bag (nice!) covering one of the headlights...surely this would fail an MOT? Wondering if theres anything I can do to get rid of this eyesore ;)

Have you got a digital camera or camera phone? I always include a small pic. of the rubbish in the e-mail to the council - seems to stir them into action. You could also CC: you letter to your local councillor.

I thought councils all had an abandoned vehicle hot-line. When I've belled them, they put a sticker on the car and if no-one claims it's crushed :)
