AA camera batteries?

Options
I have been given a bridge camera that uses AA batteries for my birthday.

It came supplied with alkaline AA batteries.

Should I continue using alkaline batteries or should I switch to using rechargeable batteries?

I have some Uniross hybrio batteries and NiMH rechargeable batteries or should I use another type?

What do others use?

Won't really make a difference except that the alkaline tend to be lower rated (~1000mah) and so won't last as long. Can drain them really quickly especially if using flash.
If buying rechargable then go for 2200mah or above if you can. You'll get a lot longer from one set the higher the rating.

Get rechargeable ones (2 sets). I use Sanyo eneloop in my camera - the higher capacity "XX" ones. They cost a bit more but are excellent in my experience. The big plus with them is that they don't lose their charge when stored anything like other brands do.
I have one set in my camera. When they run down, I pop the second set in and recharge the first set at my leisure. It can be a few months before I need them, but they will still have plenty of charge in them.

  • Adding to the above, I occasionally use lithium batteries in my GPS unit - they're very lightweight and last ages, but they're also more expensive and you can't recharge them. And some electrical items don't work with them (the current is too high) - the manual will have a warning if this is the case.

On the other hand you can buy them and put them on the shelf for years and they stay fresh. I take them abroad so that I can leave the charger at home. Energizer sells them as "Ultimate Lithium" or something along those lines.

In my experience the alkalines that come with the camera last long enough to turn it on, format the memory card, focus... and then the battery symbol starts blinking and the camera shuts down.

If the Uniross hybrios fit, use them. Depending on how intensively you use the camera they may be ideal.
I bought three packs of Hybrio batteries 3 1/2 years ago. I recently opened the second pack and put them, without charghing, into a radio. A month later they're still in use.

  • Another Eneloop user here - very highly recommended.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.

Amazon usually match or beat their prices - and have free delivery.
For a camera, I would seriously consider the higher capacity "XX" Eneloops though. £12.99 for 4 on Amazon (with free delivery) and 7dayshop (out of stock at the moment and you pay for delivery).
