We've just moved into a new house and wanted the electrics tested as they were installed over 10 years ago. It is a system that doesn't include an RCD (residual current device).

We were quoted £350 to install a new fusebox (with RCD), a new double socket in the bedroom and a full test of the electrics.

Having never had to do this before, I wondered if this was fair?

Get a second & third quote for comparison but it doesn't seem too unreasonable.

I am paying mates rates for a new cu and outside light fit - £250/300

so i would say your quote is thereabouts

We paid £300 for a new RCD fuse box and test (and a certificate to give to the people buying our house) last year without having any extra sockets or anythign fitted.

I've been given a ballpark from Electricians for a new RCD fuse box and test at about £500 in the South East so that seems reasonable to me
