Download AVG, run Norton, disconnect from internet, uninstall Norton (restart if necessary), install AVG, restart, connect to internet, download virus definitions, run AVG.0

Uninstall Norton and then run the Norton Removal Tool to clean up anything left behind.
Then you can install AVG (or preferably Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials, which are both less bloated).poppy100 -

Hey,
It is recommended to uninstall a security product before you install another. You can use the Norton Removal Tool to remove the Norton product: http://www.Norton.com/nrt
Is there any reason why you wish to uninstall the Norton product? Were you facing any problem? Please share your feedback with us. That will help us to improve our products.

I'll take a SWAG* at this ... NIS came free (for a year) with a PC purchase. OP doesn't want to have to pay to keep it so is looking at alternatives. So unless you can let OP keep NIS (with updates) free then you're on to plums.

..because on every computer I've had to work on that was running NIS going back over many years,:-
1. it's always been a resource hog,
2. with a bl00dy awful user interface,
3. important stuff like where's the "stop scan" button and "turn off real-time protection" (for running combofix when NIS has allowed the machine to get badly infected) have been sadly lacking,
4. and not wanting to allow access to safe sites (and I don't mean just warning, I mean totally blocking).
sorry, it just doesn't cut it, and you want people to pay for it?? Most of the users I've seen with it are older, and have been almost scared into buying it with their pc/laptop by unscrupulous salespeople (often from a well-known high street retailer)......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

+1 to all this.
Avast is much better and is free.
