Hi, I just know that the garage that looked at the suspension pointed out that the tyres had different numbers printed on them - one indicating 15" and the other 16". I left the car with the tyre fitters for several hours because they couldn't locate two tyres for me. That was last summer. Today my suspension broke and this came to light.

You really need to go round all 4 wheels (and the spare) and write down all the numbers before we can really comment further.

See my post #4 for the approved possibilities.

Someone could have mistakenly fitted a wheel from another Roomster - or some 'bad boys' nicked a wheel during the night.

This is a first for me, hearing this type of nonsense.

In case this isn't obvious, the 15" and 16" numbers are the wheel sizes that they fit (i.e. the diameter of the hole in the centre of the tyre). The other numbers describe the width of the tyre tread, and how high the sidewall is (expressed as a % of the tyre width).
  • ok, I'll check all the numbers tomorrow when I can get to the car - parked up away from my house right now. I don't have a proper spare - it's just a funny looking half tyre. thanks for your help.

That's the 'emergency use only' spacesaver - don't worry about it then.

    this sound very odd

I cant see any tyre company fitting one 15 inch tyre and one 16 inch tyre to the same axle and not saying anything to the customer

if they are different sizes then would say it has happened since the new tyres were fitted

Have a look at the wheels while you are at it. You will presumably find one is larger or smaller than the others.

They physically couldn't without changing the wheel itself. You couldn't stretch a 15 inch tyre onto a 16 inch rim and a 16 inch tyre on a 15 inch rim would leave a 1/2 inch gap all round for the air to fall out of.

They may have fitted a different width or profile (55 and 65?) and the OP's got the numbers confused. Easily enough done if you're not familiar with them.

    Holey camoley!

The obvious thing I could think of is that some cars have wheel rotations where you swap the corner wheels to even out wear; in that case the rear wheels wouldn't match either. But it is uncommon for cars to have different front and rear sizes.

Alternatively, what size is the spare wheel?

And the other option is that there is someone else driving around in a car with a pair of sock which match yours...

It's what I said in post No 5 then, They gave you someone else's wheel when you went back to collect the car.
