MBNA IDEM Arrangement to Pay Marker

Options
I have worked relentlessly for the past 6 years to get a pristine credit record after a series of issues in 2007/2008. All good except for an old MBNA record with a string of APs on with all CRAs.
I was considering an IVA and called MBNA who talked me out of it and proposed i Just paid them less each month. I did so for a while as it seemed preferable to a default or CCJ. I called them 6 months later and asked to be returned to a "normal" status but was told that once I was on an arrangement, I couldn't come off it.
Debt was sold to Idem Servicing in 2012 and the AP markers stopped. There is still a balance of £4k outstanding as I am using this as leverage with Idem for them to remove the AP markers. If they do, I will pay the whole lot off in one go. We will see what happens. They have my proposal.
Otherwise my record is immaculate yet I still can't obtain even an entry level credit card. Had I defaulted or IVA in 2008, I'd be laughing in a few month's time. The fact that the arrangement note stays there for 6 years AFTER the account has been paid is obscene.

Anyone dealt with Idem on this basis? How did it go?

I don't think you're going to get what you want.

You might get idem not to put any more markers on but the mbna markersw I'll still be there until 2018.

It's just a case of understanding the process, you were naive and haven't had the consequences explained by Mbna though not knowing to ask means that they haven't done anything to really mislead you.

The impact of these markers will reduce over time, it's not that they'll be disastrous for a full six years and then nothing, it's shades of grey.
  • Yes, it is an interesting point you raise. Since the transfer to Idem the AP markers have stopped (18 months ago)

I could have defaulted at the time and been better off now so in effect, and contrary to guidelines, I am in a worse position that someone who just didn't pay.

My leverage with Idem is (for now) worthwhile. They are a DCA after all and they will have purchase my account as a book for maybe 10p in the pound so me offering 100% should at least get them thinking.

I agree MBNA didn't do anything wrong, but that's not the same as doing everything right. They are obliged to ensure that the arrangement didn't disadvantage me. Yes, an AP is better than a default for me, but as a snap shot, not in the longer term.

I have read about some successes (but with Barclaycard).
