The macaroni cheese idea sounds good, another suggestion would be to do a spaghetti carbonara if you chop the bacon into small pieces and you have some eggs, leftover cream and pasta around. This is a quick supper and nice served with a chilled glass of wine at the weekend!

2 ham shanks ( £3-60 for 2 ) from local market plus a £4.99 free range chicken from Aldi or Lidl feeds me royally for a week !

I would well think it does, but do you only eat meat,

Thanks for the heads up OP, picked up a pack today, not opened it but deff looks to be chunky.

Just rereading, I have eggs and some shortcrust pastry so quiche Lorraine looks likely.

This is a recipe by Jocasta Innes from her Paupers Cookbook. It is so simple, cheap but absolutely delicious. It is one of my favourite bacon recipes! I either make it as a main course or a side dish. I make it quite often .... we just love it

Don't let the cooking time put you off, I always chop everthing really thinly so it will take half the time to cook.

Cook the bacon steaks and warm some pineapple slices and juice and pour on top. Serve with peas and sauteed potatoes.
