Laptop battery only gives 45 minutes usage.

My Dell Inspiron 1545 battery is 4 cell, 2200 capacity and 14.8 voltage. It is only giving around 45 minutes usage and wondered if this could be increased with a more powerful battery ?

I have noticed Amazon and Ebay have replacement batteries compatible with the 1545. They are 6 cell, 4400 capacity but a lower voltage of 11.1. I'm not really up on these things but does the voltage for the replacement battery have to be the same as the existing one ?

Of course the working voltage has to be the same, if Dell could have got away with 11.1v when your laptop was in the R&D stage then they would have done it.

I very much doubt if the battery currently fitted would only have had a life of 45 minutes when it was new, even the worst batteries I've seen would have provided at least double that time. I suspect the battery is old and knackered (happens to us all) and a straightforward replacement will revitalise your computer.

Some of the budget laptops have terrible batteries. I was given one to cleanup and thought the battery was kaput. 20 minutes of uninstalling files and running scans and it was almost dead.

I checked the specs online and it only lasted about an hour when new.

My laptop battery only held about 20 minutes for the past 5 months or so. I got a replacement. Never buy cheap fake ones as they'll have less power cells in them and the rest filled with some other material and are a fire risk.

I used laptopsandspares.com they are UK based, provide genuine batteries and for less than the RRP (well for mine it was) sorry for sounding like an advert, but I just rate them highly after my purchase. I get over 2 hours battery life now.

Just make sure you get the battery suited for your laptop

    Just had a look:
    http://www.laptopsandspares.com/batpsq3875b-5l-dell-inspiron-1545-laptop-battery

It says the 11.1v one replaces the 14.8 one.
  • Thank you for your replies. The current battery is around 3 years
old and initially I was getting up to one and a half hours. I assume it is now reaching the end of its life and will be replacing it.

Sharon87 - thanks very much for the information you provided, I will probably purchase a new battery from them.

Thanks Sharon. Unfortunately they don't have a battery for my old laptop and can't order one in.

The original battery for my Fujitsu laptop is 11.1v, 4400mAh, 6 cell. Most of the ones on Amazon are 4400mHa, but I have found one that is 5200mHa, 11.1v, 6 cell. Would this be a suitable replacement?

Any other places I could try?

Worth downloading the free version of BatteryBar to check how 'worn' your current battery is. You can see that mine was originally a 66600mWh but is now effectively a 59385 due to 'wear':

Thanks for that. I ruined mine by leaving it plugged into the mains every time I used it and now it only lasts about 20 mins.

That sounds fine, the mHa number just means how much power it will hold so you'll get even more power than your old battery!

I run mine down too by keeping it plugged in all the time. I wont be making that mistake again.
