EDF have completely baffled me...

I've found with EDF I get better results when speaking to them over the phone rather than other means. On your bill it should show you in the right hand column how much they have calculated your annual usage to be in KWK and in £'s. I submit my meter readings every five weeks, as for some reason no bill is generated if I submit the meter readings after 4 weeks. Check you latest bill it may show a reduced DD figure going forward once tehy have recalculated your usage. Even though I put readings in every 5 weeks (and get a bill each time), they only seem to change the DD on the 3rd bill. HTH0

As your meter is M3 (as opposed to cubic ft.) plus the fact you appear to be such a low user, you should have no problems with unexpected large bills suddenly appearing. There are many post on here from people who have been paying too little DD and are subsequently hit with a large bill.
I'd rather be a bit in credit (the cash earns nothing in my current account anyway) than the other way round. Stop worrying, it'll be sorted when they review your account.0 -
Also note I am also a low user, my annual usage from my last bill works out at £53/month 7337KWH gas and 1677 KWH Electric. Everyone uses different amounts it all depends on how much heating/hot water you use, electical appliances etc etc. Also this winter had been extremely mild, so most people will have used a lot less gas than last winter and will be in more credit than expected.0

Thanks very much for the reassurance guys. We've only been homeowners for 7 months so stuff like this is still all a bit new to us! Hopefully all is well and we'll just continue as normal.First home purchased 09/08/2013

I have kept a spreadsheet of all meter readings since I move to my place and now have data covering a number of years and can fairly accurately estimate my future use based on this historical data.
You might want to start keeping records and in a year or so will have a much better idea of your annual usage

Great point, thanks very much. I think I will start to do just that so I have a better handle on things

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does spreadsheets. Mine go back 31 years, since I have lived in this house.
It is quite difficult to make the spreadsheet cost calculations match those used by the energy companies, but I am usually within a couple of pence.0
