It can also be a problem in premium economy!

Not just also. I'd say it's usually a bigger problem in WT+ than CW.

Or if you buy a flexible ticket, or by using certain travel agents.

Two adjacent seats in Club World might be a problem

The middle pairs are always the last to get selected, so typically there is no issue getting two together at T-24.

I'm in World Traveller Plus and BA Blue so no preferential seat allocation is offered. I'll come back and let you know how it goes in a few days time.

As others have said it is t-24 and if you have a connecting flight it appears to be t-24 from that as well.

However, if you want exit row they open up 14 days before. I recently found out that it was done in 24 hour periods too but based on the (local) flight time of the one you're wanting the exit row seats on and not including any connecting flight.

I managed to get exit row seats on a BA flight back from Vegas over Christmas but I had to get up 3.30am to get them because of the above - glad we did as the flight was pretty full and lots of seats allocated at t-24.

    Update:

Now 24h before the flight and check in is open but it stops after selecting number of bags with this message:

Sorry, we cannot complete online check-in for your flight on this occasion. Please proceed to the airport to check in and collect your boarding pass.

Is this a glitch in their system on an ominous message that they have me down to bump off the flight? It's the 14.40 LHR-SFO.

Is there any point in phoning them?

I know this one all too well lol.

You've been flagged for security screening as its a US bound flight. Nothing to worry about in my experience but they may choose to do an extra screening at the boarding gate for you.

I called BA and they said that I couldn't check in for 'operational reasons' - is that code for security checks?
  • It happened to me travelling both ways to Orlando last year. Nothing bad happened but I know it can be stressful. At least on a plane you are guaranteed a seat.
