Hi.
I am looking to go to Dalyan in Turkey with my two kids who are 2 and 4 and my husband. We have never been to Turkey before and it will be our first holiday as a family so we want it to be perfect.
I have been doing a bit of research into the Dalyan area and I chose that area as it's not too far from the airport and it seems like a nice and quiet area, which is not too touristy.
However, I am a bit worried about the nearest beach being a boat ride or a dolmus trip away.....Ideally we would like to visit the beach every day even for a short while but if the journey is too long it might put me and the kids off....Anyone have any experience or advice on this?
Also, what other activities are there in the Dalyan area that will be of interest to the kids?
I know that Dalyan market day is on a Saturday, but are there other shops in the area that I could visit on other days? I am looking to buy cheap clothes and carpets etc.
Thanks in advance.

Mmm not on the beach but very close to the airport as you say. If you want the beach Olu Deniz would be much better but quite a trail from the airport. Or how about Sarigerme? That is close to the airport. Fethiye is best for your shopping. Fabulous Tuesday market with everything you could wish to buy ( not carpets) go to the shops for that.travelover0

Thanks for your reply.
I'm in a bit of a dilemma now. I've seen a lovely villa with a private swimming pool in Dalyan but it's just the distance to the beach that's really putting me off.
I've had a look at Fethiye and Olu Deniz too but the villas there are way out of our price range and I don't fancy staying in a hotel room as I'd rather let the kids have the extra space to play. Containing them in just one room may be a bit difficult.
Any advice would be most welcome.0 -
It's very easy to get to the beach from the centre of town, and getting the boat is a bit of an adventure for kids. There's also the option of a minibus which goes to the other end of the beach for a change.
There's not much shelter at the beach so if you're taking about high summer it might get very hot for kids, if you're getting a villa then the beach everryday might be a bit excessive if the is a pool.
There's some ancient ruins to visit across the river, probably not ideal for young kids, and there's shops everywhere.
You can also get a boat up the river and across the lake which is another option for a day trip. We went to marmaris for the day, weren't very impressed and it would be atrek with young kids.0 -

my kids are older, but i would certainly consider doing what you were thinking - private villa with pool in Dalyan. They represent really good value for money I think, and with a pool to yourselves it would be a lovely holiday.

Thanks for your replies.
I'm still doing my research and the villa that I am looking at is 15 minutes away from the centre of Dalyan so the all round trip to the beach could be 45 mins.
Plus now my hubys worried about the private pool as our kids are only 2 and 4 and neither of them know how to swim yet he's worried about them sneaking outside and falling in etc......
Never thought planning a holiday would be this difficult...0 -
Isuzu beach is great and the dolmus ride really isn't that long and quite fun. I'd suggest going in the morning before it gets too hot and the beach gets busy (lots of boat trips arrive from lunchtime onwards and then disappear mid afternoon IIRC). There are shops but, for clothes, they tend to be much more expensive than markets.0
