online used vehicle parts ?

Hi,

I have had some online quotes from a couple of different sites that source used car/van parts..

Namely 247spares.co.uk & whatpart.co.uk

Just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with any of these companies, any feedback/experiences appreciated.

or other similar sites you have used ?

Why not go down your local wreckers yard? Tend to be cheaper in my experience :D
  • Hi Stoke,

    Thanks for reply !

Unfortunately nearest scrappers to us are approx. 20 miles in either direction.
  • eBay is good for used car parts, as are car specific owners clubs :)
  • Any time I've tried them I've found the supplying breakers to be a bit expensive. That's down to the responding companies though.

Know someone that ordered an engine, wrong one sent and took a while to get a refund. On a brighter note, the company never uplifted the engine again and it was sold on.

I wouldn't worry about 20 miles each way if I knew they had the parts I was looking for, and I was happy with the price.

As previous post E Bay is great found everything I have ever needed on there. Find a good seller and send them a message they should be able to source something for you.
  • Just thought I'd mention a cautionary tale.....years ago I bought a second hand lower suspension arm for my peugeot 205 from a local scrap dealer (told you it was years ago!). After a weekend of getting the old one off and the new(er) one on, was pretty ticked off when I found that the replacement had more play in it than the one I'd took off.
The scrap dealer was local so I took it back, but it was the time involved that was a real pain.
So yes, I'd still buy from a scrap dealer, but only parts which aren't subject to this sort of wear.
More fool me really, and a lesson learnt!
  • I've tried a couple of online parts enquiries, never had a single reply, won't bother again.

Ebays not bad, at least you have an idea of the seller by their (as a seller) feedback rating.

    Hi madforitdiver,

I am after a pair of rear trailing arms for a Suzuki carry van.
The rubber bushes have "deteriorated" in current arms, and you cannot buy the bushes as standalone part.

I am also worried that trailing arm taken off a scrapper may have same issues. However spoke to a Suzuki specialist ( off ebay ) on Friday, they have the required parts "on shelf" . I expressed my concerns re wear, response was that they would just bin worn out parts anyway.
Have to speak to them again on Monday, as it was almost closing time when I phoned on fri.
The parts are a bit more than I ideally wanted to pay, but obviously a good saving over buying new, so I will probably have to bite the bullet and get them..

What is the difference in price to the new ones? They might look alright 'on the shelf' but the rubber could be hard/cracked or show wear when under load. If its bushes you gotta go new surely, not worth the time and effort involved messing around with part worn ones?

New ones are 110 each + vat.

The used place wants 40 each + vat + delivery
