Reduced Maternity pay- any extra help?

Hi, can someone help please? I've just got my payslip and my salary is a lot less now as baby is now 26weeks. I've still got the same bills to pay, can I get any extra help. I'm a mum of 3 and already get child tax credits.

Statutory maternity pay doesn't change at 26 weeks, so presumably this is because your company pay less after 26 weeks. I don't often say this to people, but in this case presumably you knew that you would only get 26 weeks maternity pay and then it would drop?

You won't get any more increase in tax credits, Do you have a partner? Do they work? Are you getting working tax credit?

How many hours do you normally work (and what did you work immediately before maternity leave) and what is your salary roughly? You may be entitled to some WTC this year with your SMP, you might not be getting any WTC but it will be included in your calculation. Do you claim any childcare costs help?

You may be entitled to housing benefit and council tax support.

Visit your council offices and ask for the claim forms.

How much is you income at the moment?
  • I get Hb of £14/week, my rent is £130/wk. I pay full council tax. I worked 25 hrs a week before mat.leave. Salary was roughly 1000/month. Nt claiming any childcare costs at the moment.

It's a bit hard to believe that somebody earning the full time equivalent of £26k per annum and on their 3rd pregnancy wouldn't have checked what maternity pay they would be receiving at any point in the year to this point..........

Have you informed HB and CT support of the change of cirumstances? You may be entitled to more now.
  • No, haven't called with this years estimated income nor done a change of circumstances. Thanks for the help all. Will be doing that next. And yes, it is quite hard to believe that someone with a 3rd pregnancy didn't check what maternity pay they'd be receiving! Shocking!

There isn't really - hence why I went back to work when my youngest was 6 months old as I could afford the drop in income up to then
