EDF back billing
Hi all,
I have an interesting problem with EDF energy. I was wondering if anyone could offer advice please?
I was living in a flat from 22 Sept 2012 - 17 Oct 2013 and was constantly bombarded with EDF bills that were simply addressed as 'homeowner'. They were always incorrect and billed us for a time period that we weren't in the flat for. After calling multiple times they eventually got the time period correct and a bill dropped through which we duly paid (£230). However, they are now asking for back payment of £1,350.68, taking the total to £1,580.68 for just over a year. They are asking for this to be paid by 7th March, giving us just over a week to pay.
Does the payment of £230 exclude us from the 12 month clause or does their inability to get the facts right give us a leg to stand on in terms of getting a reduction? (Just to add we never refused entry to the meter reader but did not send off readings).
Thanks in advance.

Meter reading when you left property minus meter reading when you entered property = energy used.
energy used * tariff = billable amount
billable amount minus £230 = what you owe0
