Getting out of Timeshare

Not sure if this is where I can ask this question but here goes anyway.
Has anyone owned timeshare and successfully got rid of it? Do you know of any experts (solicitors) that could help, we don't use ours and was lead to believe we could surrender at any time back to the company, however, it turns out you can surrender only to another buyer. We are willing to give our week away but need to find someone that wants it. Really need help if anyone can - thanks

We had timeshare, but owned points rather than a fixed week, we were also told that we could only sell to other members etc, the points are worthless now and so the only thing we could do was to stop paying the annual fees, after much threatening with debt collectors from the company, they finally gave up and I've heard nothing for over 2yrs.
Timeshare is extremely hard to sell, as the market seems to be flooded with unwanted t/s. Just look on eBay and people can't give them away.
Depending who you own with it may be best to find online forums with others in the same suitation as yourself ?
Good luck I wish you all the best,0
