Replacement Boiler Scheme

Hi,
My Name is Ant, me and my family have been living in a private rented house for a year and a half now and over the colder periods we are spending almost £50 a week just on gas. we are on a pre pay meter and this really takes down any spare cash we have to the point were we have little to non for savings or anything else.
i have asked our landlord to upgrade our boiler and he has refused as it is still working. the boiler is very low rated, but like he has stated it is still working, so he does not want to replace it. so i had a look at one of the boiler replacement schemes thinking because me and my girlfriend receive child tax and working tax credit we would be eligible for it but as our income is just over the £15860 we have been refused. i understand that i am not the worst off person but seen as it is not my house i am not going to plough money into a new boiler.
i have come on here to see if anyone has an advice on how to proceed or if anyone has been in a similar situation and got round it.
any replies will be much appreciated,
thanks!.
