Good Morning Folks
Is it worth buying and selling domain names to generate a second income?
If so, could someone be kind enough to advice what types of domain names to buy, where to buy them from, and how long to hold on to them before selling, and finally, where to go if I want to sell them?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

I think if you knew what you were doing you could make a small amount of money, maybe more if you got very lucky.
But since you quite obviously know !!!!!! all about the subject I think it is fair to say no.0 -
So let me think..... someone has spent years working out how to make money on domain names. They then share all this information with a stranger on the internet, pretty much guaranteeing they will lose a chunk of their business. Do you really think that is likely?
I have several domain names. They are mostly unused, cost me a small amount of money every few years, but I doubt if they are worth anything. I use 1&1 to buy them and it has always been quite straightforward though I have seen people complaining about them online. The trick would be working out what might be desirable to other people, but with the increase in options I think there is less pressure on names, which means many may have lost value.0 -
I have a friend who makes a living doing this. But when I say living I mean it can vary from £500 per month to £1200 and he does affiliate marketing blah blah as well. He only does it because he has the know how, is very well versed in this area and is unemployed.Money money money.

I have a bunch of domains that I may or may not use in the future, they cost little to maintain but out of all of them I have only been approached twice asking to sell and sold one for the princely sum of £500.
I cant really see much of a model there tbh.0 -

What you need to do is do your own research.
Noone is going to tell you the answers to those questions.0 -
If you can find expired domains that have certain positive attributes then they can be worth money to people building private blog networks.
Do a Google search for finding expired domains for building a PBN. Cloud income has some good info.
You have to search the sites each day looking for an expired domain that has a good profile, but once you do they can be picked up for cheap and sold on to people looking to build a PBN.
I'm after some good expired domains so if you find any good ones let me know!0 -
Perhaps you can try locate expired authority (At least 5 ) domains and start selling links from it to others. Very profitable if you know what you are doing with it.:T:j:mad::p:D;):eek::rotfl::A this are the signs of a lunatic.0

I would say not, you may find a few nice domains here and there but it is not really worth it unless you know exactly what you are going after, names that define industry sectors and/or products can sell well, but you need to be aware that you can waste a year before you find anything like this.
I have owned AmericanFlights.net, InjuryLaw.info and Hairdressing.info amongst others in the past, but they are rarities for the small price I paid, always have a back-up plan instead of relying on flipping them, which is to say, 'create value'
Do not rely only on .com and realise that you are likely to sell more for low hundreds than one big sale like Whisky.com of a day ago that sold for $3.1M

I read a book years ago called (i think) escape the rat race and the author spent some time explaining how he did this.
One of his favourites was the research a big bunch of good domain names that were already taken by existing businesses, then set an alert on them so if they became available he would buy them immediately, then contact the business and let them know it was available for sale if they still wanted it. Apparently some businesses are lax with their renewals and don't have them set up to automatically renew.
However, bear in mind the author has written a book telling everyone how to stop working, so you take the chance he is talking out of his butt and is actually making money from the book, not the techniques he is banging on about.0
