The "myth" of motorway speed tolerance

Where on the M3 is the 50mph? I often go down to Eastleigh and haven't noticed except where there are average speed sections.
Section just as you come off the M25 going southbound for about 2-3 miles, covered by average speed camerasRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I got caught at 80 on a dual carriageway with a 70 limit. I didn't believe I had done it and got into an argument refusing to plead guilty because they wouldn't let me see the photographs. I spent a whole day in court waiting to be called. The procurator came and talked to me when she realised I wasn't represented and offered me the opportunity to plead guilty to 78.
Incidentally there was a tradesman there who had been caught in his van at 71 or so who was very aggrieved. Unfortunately for him his speed limit was 60. So your van man could have very easily been caught on a dual carriageway rather than a motorway.0 -
Don't rely on GPS to accurately record speed as it is only accurate on a dead level road, any incline or decline will throw out accuracy.
Only by a negligible amount. Even on a 1 in 10 hill (quite steep for a major road), it will read low by only 0.5%.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

Speed limit in a dual carriageway is 70 too.
My post seems to have sparked some controversy. All of the points raised could be true - I didn't see his actual prosecution notice. It was never the less quite amusing.0 -

Not for a commercial vehicle under 7.5 tonnes, which would include white van man.
Chap on my speed awareness course could not understand why he had been caught a few times until the course leader asked if he drove a van, different vehicle types have different speed limits.0
