I have a car i bought in December which is currently a non runner.
Tax runs out at the end of March, but i have not recieved the logbook yet to get the numbers to SORN it.
Is there any other way to do it?
I have been in contact with the previous owners multiple times and every time they say theyve sent it, but give a different date so i dont trust thet they have.

Apply direct to the DVLA for it.0

Are they likely to accept the reason for it not being SORN already is due to me not having the logbook?
The car is on a private drive, taxed but not insured0 -
I bought a car 2 weeks ago and V5 came through yesterday so something amiss if you haven't received it for one from DecemberRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

Don't worry, if its not sorn then the previous registered keeper will get any fines until he sorts the log book out for you. Why didn't you send the v5 off like you are meant to?0

The seller sends off the V5, not the buyer.
OP, we sold a car last year and realised a couple of months later that we hadn't received the acknowledgement of transfer to a new keeper. I rang up the DVLA, who claimed never to have received the V5 after we sold the vehicle, and they said to simply send off a letter detailing the date of the sale, the particulars of the vehicle, and the name and address of the new keeper. I did this, and a few weeks later, acknowledgement came through.
Stop mucking around with the seller and get on to the DVLA.0 -

The OP. Needs to wait until they are the registered keeper before making a SORN. If the details from the new keeper supplement are used, the SORN will be in the name of that registered keeper and will be cancelled on the change of registered keeper.
Wouldn't be the first case of someone thinking they had complied with regulations, only to be chased by the DVLA for the Late Licensing Penalty because they had declared SORN too early, not realising it had been cancelled.0
