Credit file

Hi, I am trying to reclaim PPI but they're from 1983-2002 but I can't remember who the finance was with. Apparently your credit file only shows debts from the last seven years so how do I find out please???
Thanks
Debbie:)

    Hi

I'm pretty sure you can't claim PPI more than 7 years back.....
  • You can claim PPI from ages ago but it's just harder, You might have more luck going through a PPI specialist, they take a cut but you're chances are more likely. Give them a ring to find out :)

    Hope this helps.
You have no rights until you know about them.:)

PPi wasn't around in 1983. It started later. It also pre-dates financial services regulation.

No she wont. They use the same free-of-charge complaints process the individual uses and still need to send the complaint to the firms in question. They have no way of finding out who you borrowed from 30 years ago unless you tell them.

    1) You cannot "reclaim" PPI just because you feel like it. Lenders/insurers are businesses not charities.
    2) if you have no memory of who you even had credit with (hence whether you've taken out PPI from anyone) then how on earth are you going to complain about what happened when it was "sold" to you?

The above may sound harsh but the truth sometimes is. This is a complete waste of time.

This would be the usual process but the fact remains that bearing in mind that the OP evidently has no memory of taking out any of the finance I can't see how she can in good faith raise a complaint about it.

You can complain about the sale of anything at any time, but they should have been regulated in some way.

There's so muh rubbish in this statement I don't kow where to start. Complaint companies have ZERO ACCESS to your personal financial records. They can find out exactly the same things you can [or can't] only if you give them permission to do so, they have ZERO 'special powers'. they are LESS likely to complain successfully on your behalf. NEVER use a complaints company, they do absolutely nothing you can't do yourself, but they will charge you 50% for the privilege.

If you can't remember who the finance was with, no one else will know, and there is no way to find out short of sending a SAR and £10 to each lender you ever borrowed from....and even that may not help because the finance was so long ago in some cases.

Some banks sold ppi in 1983, like Barclaycard, but it only covered unemployment and life cover, sickness benefits came in later.

31 years ago, are you serious? I would just forget about this one.
