is a car capital when claiming Income Support?

I'm thinking of selling my car as OH needs a bigger van (i'd then get a cheaper car)
Do I need to inform DWP that i am thinking of doing this? Just want to make sure i'm doing the right thing as when I sell the car the money would be sitting in my bank while we look for another vehicle...and they might wonder where its came from

Sorry to be blunt but if your on IS, shouldn't your OH be supporting you and not the other way around?0

It's joint income support due to unfortunate circumstances and a disabled child. We support each other, both newly self employed but not yet taking a wage...0

Would the sale give you £6000 if not its fine, if it will let them know its temporary.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
A car isn't capital.
However sell that car and the proceeds are capital irrespective what you aim to do with this money. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

It's more than 6k. So do I have to let them know? Money might be in the bank for up to 2 weeks0 -

How can you get income support if you are both self employed?
2 weeks probably wont make a difference, just make sure you keep a paper trail or why not just keep the cash at home.0
