PayPal dispute after 45 days

I made a business purchase using PayPal in December. Delivery was due in early January but the seller (abroad) delayed because of a number of reasons that seemed reasonable. The goods hit UK soil a week ago but I've just had s series if customer complaints and it seems that a high proportion of the goods are faulty.
I contacted PayPal who said that, because more than 45 days have elapsed since payment was made, that I can't claim via them but recommended I contact my bank. I did so, informed them that the problem was faulty goods and they are arranging a refund of the payment. All good so far. But yhey said that if PayPal can prove payment is due, they'll take the money back again & I'm unsure as to whether PayPal will do this. I wouldn't have contacted the bank without their suggestion but it doesn't feel quite righy.
Any suggestions? The seller is refusing a refund/partial refund and I've had to pay postage & return postage costs already.

I think you may have a problem here. Your not taking money from this guys bank account your taking it from the person you paid i.e pay pal?
Don't know why your posting here surely you should be asking pay pal again to help?People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
indeed i suspect if you do a chargeback then your paypal balance will be a negative balance and paypal are quite aggressive in collecting debts.
Where did you buy the goods from, if it was China or similar then i think you are going to be out of luck, if elsewhere you will have to look at what the law of that country offers as protection on purchases but enforcing anything is unlikely to be cheap0 -

It is well known that both ebay and paypal lie to get people off the phone.
On what basis has your bank refunded your money? If you got it straight back then it sounds like a simple dispute- and if that is the case then paypal will be asked to show that the money was authorised and it will be refunded back to paypal once your bank is satisfied that it was due. I have the same with a hotel charge that has gone through 4 times :eek: my bank has refunded 3 of the payments automatically as they are obliged to do, but it will still need to be proved that the charge was wrong, otherwise they have informed me I will be recharged.
Paypal are known for taking a dim view of people who chargeback via a bank and may well close acocutns ebcause of it, so be warned.

Why does it feel wrong? Goods faulty - you've returned some by sounds of it at own expense? You are due a refund....so where is the bad feelings for the seller who is messing you around?People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

Paypal don't just removed funds from a sellers account without reason so I suggest the OP means the advice that paypal gave 'feels wrong'. If that is the case then I agree.
