Planning to visit Calais for kitchen/bathroom

Hi,
We have bought a house whcih needs new kitchen, bathroom and wardrobes. One idea to save money is to cross the channel (Calais) and buy from other side (this is based on documentary we saw on TV). Does anybody have experience in the same? Any comments welcome!

Cheers,
Dew

The documentary that I saw said to be very careful about fittings. Taps etc can be £100's of cheaper but may not fit if you don't get the right thread.
You need to factor in the cost of travel and what you are going to get over there in- IE Hire van?
Can't be any more help I'm afraid, I wouldn't know where to start!

There are plenty of diy places around Calais, Bricolage, for example, and even the supermarkets have a good selection. I've bought plumbing items in Germany often, and they have fitted. Whether you will save or not, I don't know, but a cheap day trip should give you a flavour of what to expect, and if you stock up on the things that are definitely cheaper, it probably won't even cost you a lot. Have a look on the daytripper website for price comparisons, and don't forget to let us all know how you get on!

Threads are all similar now. Long gone are the days of Imperial "v" metric as all taps are manufactured in a metric country. If the whole exercise works out cheaper, go for it...Who would fit your new kitchen self build or a local joiner??? As always, ensure you know you have all the bits and pieces when you collect.

A friend of mine went to Calais when she wanted a new kitchen. She said she saved a lot of cash, especially on the large slot in cooker they purchased. She was lucky as her husband had use of a large van from work, so didn't have to pay for hire.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
