When I was made redundant my daughter asked me to lend her some money I felt really awful having to say no and explained that this could go against me with claiming benefits they could say I have spent the money willy nilly. Any one else felt like this. at the moment am claiming contribution based jsa.

Your savings do not affect anything contribution based, but would affect any means tested benefits you try to claim.
You need to explain to your daughter the rules around means tested benefit, and 'deprivation of assets'!
We all try to help our kids, but it isn't always possible.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

I don't know how much money you've got but the benefit system tends to penalise savers .The more savings you have the less money you'll get from the state once your CBJSA expires in 6 months0

Don't blame yourself. OF COURSE you would help financially if you could; what mother wouldn't? As long as you have explained to her the reality of why you cannot lend her money, you have absolutely NOTHING to feel guilty about and, probably, have helped her in the long run.
As long as she knows that you love her, whatever she's going through, that is all you can do. Please don't be ashamed of that. Express regret that you can't lend her money, explain why, and assure her of your love - that is the best that a loving parent can do.
Hope you have a happy future with your daughter. x0 -

No one is being penalised, the state are simply saying that since you can support yourself with your own cash then you don't need benefits.0
