What happened to the government pledges to force energy companies to notify customers about any cheaper tariffs? Was any legislation produced?

Not yet as far as I know but it is in the pipeline.
nPower staff are told NOT to promote cheaper tariffs unless customers ask specifically about them.
I believe their bills DO tell you if you are not on the best tariff, it's on page 5 out of 8 or something like that so not exactly obvious.
The problem is once they are forced to offer the best tariff, I expect the best tariff won't be so attractive.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

As of 31st March 2014 all annual statements and bills will contain 2 separate supplier cheapest deals both calculated at the customers own estimated annual consumption.
Relevant Cheapest deal: same meter type/same product type (fixed/variable)/different payment methods
Alternative Cheapest deal: different meter (but only time of use swapping to standard)/ different product type (fixed/variable)/different payment methods0
