Is Cheap Energy Club fully working?

I was notified by EDF, my current supplier that OVO had introduced a tariff that could save me more than £52 per year. I decided to wait a few days for an email from Cheap Energy Club. When nothing arrived, I logged on and did a fresh comparison which gave £100 p.a. saving if I moved to OVO. So why no email? Was I just too impatient? My own calculation gives £82 p.a. saving so worth switching especially with £30 cashback.

I think the near-universal opinion is that it is a big pile of pants.

A three minute check yourself every six or three months to survey what is available is a more sensible strategy than using a GIGO referrals scraper.

I encountered the same problem as the OP.

Thanks to Nada for his advice. I can now add "a big pile of pants" to my on line lexicon (GIGO was already in there).

Incidentally, does the Cheap Energy Club offer an extra £30 loyalty bonus (from signing up thru them), or does that just come with the tariff?

My "big pile of pants" account still has me down as "switch in progress" (from SP to EDF) so heaven's knows how I will ever get it to consider new offerings (like OVO).
  • Do OVO pay commissions to switching sites? I have no idea how the CEC works as I've never used it (still no idea why they insist on full address TBH) but is it like all switching sites in that it defaults to 'show only tariffs we can switch you to: subtitled 'those which pay us commission''? And if so, would the promised email notification be based on this criteria also?

When you click through the energy club to switch, how do you get the cashback?

Edit: I just found the answer.

When will I get my cashback?
In up to twelve weeks. It'll be paid straight into your account and appear as EnergyClubCashbk.

  • This is my first time so please bear with me. I would have loved replies but don't know what my URL is. Not very good with computers.

Having problems understanding how Martin's Energy Club comes up with their figures eg

Am on Age UK Fixed Price April 2014 with E.on for both Gas and Electricity. Own my home. Pay by Monthly Direct Debit. Not Economy 7. 1065 Kwh Gas and 1375 Kwh Electricity used from 4 March 2013 -
21 February 2014. Forecast comes up saying that my present current tariff is £353 a year and £29 a month. Have all my bills and have Total Cost of £782.07 Am being told that I can save £58 a year.

So entered £228.76 paid for Electricity for the year and £553.31 for Gas and correct figure comes up of £782.

Confused as Kwh is supposed to give the most accurate results.

Please, kindly check my figures. So if I use Kwh the figure given is £353 or use £ the figure is £782.

Hope this makes sense. Awaiting replies with interest.

    Many thanks

Using KWh is the most accurate method - however the ones you've used are wrong. There is no way you'd be able to heat a property using the ones above.

Have you missed off a 0 somewhere? 10,650 is a more believable figure for annual gas usage.
  • We live in a two bedroom maisonette. Yes, the figures are accurate. Were away nine winter weeks but unable to do that again so figures will be somewhat higher this coming year. Trust that clarifies things a bit.

Today, chose Cheapest Fixed Price for one year with OVO via this site and was quoted £735 a year = £61 per month.

Went direct to OVO and was quoted £795!!!

They took my postcode etc and when I mentioned MoneySavingExpert.com's figure they were surprised and said that they WOULD CHARGE ME THE PRICE THEY QUOTED OVER THE PHONE WHEN THEY RECEIVE MY APPLICATION. Lady was going to discuss this with Management.

However, think I should be OK because I am certain that this site will stand by their figures and support me. HELP!!!

Naturally, I chose to switch via this site and not direct with OVO.

Interestingly, the lady at OVO also initially quoted wrongly with my Kwh details, circa £300, as per my first post until I quoted yearly figures for fuel used. (Please would someone test the system?)

Lastly, checked with E.on new quotes range from £881.13: £908.05: and £925.81 Saved £146.13 by switching from E.on. Saved £60 by signing up to OVO from this site.

ONE VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER - wish I could work out how to use smiles.

Many, many thanks MoneySavingExpert.com will definitely be recommending you to all my friends.

You have probably used 1065 meter units, around 11928 kWh if metric (or 34080 kWh if imperial).

you do know the supplier is more acurate than mse ?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
