dog walking routine?

  • Mine are Shih tzus and get one 20 minute walk whilst I am at work and then 3 times a week a long evening walk. Twice a week a shorter walk cos I work late and they don't like going out late! (nor do they like rain, puddles or the cold)

At the weekends I walk them for about 40 mins? That means they are SHATTERED and sleep for the rest of the day!

We have an (almost) nine year old flat coat retriever. If OH is home he and the dog go for a 20 minute run every weekday morning, dog does not run for 30 minutes he mooches about so OH has to run back to him, and a half hour walk every evening. During the week I am off a couple of days and I will take the dog out for a walk too - varying length 15 minutes to an hour. If OH is away then the morning walk is just a 20 minute walk.

At weekends he still gets the morning and evening walks but one of them will be about an hour long.

Almost all walks are off the lead, even in winter, as we live in a forest, we just take a torch. Most walks include a paddle in a stream to wash the mud off just before we reach home.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Mine have all refused this morning. I thing they too are resenting the earlier daylight!

Neither do mine but tough, if I have to suffer going out in the rain and the dark then so do they 😝. We're hoping to put our house on the market soon and I do want to get a place with a large enough garden for my sheltie to play in, he has fear aggression and can be a nightmare to walk, I've always said he should have been born an indoor cat :rotfl:

    My border collie gets

Usually in the week he gets this everyday
1x45 min general walk with fetch/frisbee
Then usually has garden to his self when were around door is pretty much open all the time
1x30 min or until it starts to get dark.
Weekends varies : walked 12.miles with him the other Saturday and he still wanted more after that , so then took him for another 15 minute stretch it off walk after that and he was fine . On the Sunday think we just went up the hill for a hour ish and he was socialising with everyone (he's such a flirt) then other weekends he just comes everywhere with us like to my parents and my OH parents he's generally awesome though considering the life he had before us
