Unfortunately, I think we're more likely to be in the category of not being allowed over 2,000 unless we meet the magic ratio they mention... :rotfl:

ETA - actually, even they have a huge number of followers, so perhaps they do conform to TW's magic ratio?

You can follow 2,000 (or 2,001 in some cases!) but that number increases with the amount of followers you have. Not sure what the ratio is though.

It is generally believed that you can follow 2,000 (sometimes 2,001) or the number of followers you have plus 10%, whichever is the higher figure.

If the 2,000 limit is a problem just open another account and so on (apparently multiple twitter accounts are permitted, you just need a different e-mail address for each of them), remember not to enter the same comp from different accounts as that may break the comp T&C's

Not sure the OP was after this sort of information though, more how could they increase the number of followers they have and keep them.

Keeping followers can be hard! Sometimes people are put off by the amount of competition tweets someone does and will unfollow straight away.

Or people will unfollow if you don't follow them back.

I tend to lose a few followers here and there because I run Rafflecopter competitions and one of the optional entries is that people can follow me on Twitter. Once the comp has ended and a winner has been announced they unfollow.

:rotfl: Erm, well, I must admit I currently follow c. 800, and I tend not to look at my timeline much.... :o
  • no limit to number of followers, afaik..

Twitter does seem to frown on mass follow sprees, though.. perhaps i'm not famous enough!
