Hi folks,

Just thought I'd begin a post regarding this issue.

It's causing a right old kerfuffle on their Facebook page & on hotukdeals.

Asda launched a deal on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 11th February the Week for a total cash price of £129 when two online only voucher codes were entered on the Asda website, and free "collect from store" was nominated.

John Lewis advertised their own deal a Week later on a Samsung Galaxy Tab for £199 online plus a "special offer" of an additional £50 vouchers via voucher redemption.

Customers requested Price Match deals under Never Knowingly Undersold following a post on hotukdeals, and most had confirmation price matches honoured initially plus the £50 vouchers contained within the Special Offer, bringing the price down to match the Asda cash price but with the added bonus of £50 of John Lewis vouchers, effectively bringing the price down to £79.

John Lewis have since realised they may be an issue, and according to the posts are responding inconsistently, some Undersales being honoured with a £70 price match plus £50 vouchers, others being offered a £20 price match plus £50 vouchers, and those originally offered the £70 price match plus £50 vouchers being changed to £20 price match plus £50 vouchers.

JL are stating their policy of Never Knowingly Undersold and this individual "special offer" cannot be used in conjunction, but this was not made clear on their website and the inconsistencies in their response have caused the situation to escalate.

i'm confused. With JL, i take it one would pay for the tab, then go onto samsung's website and redeem £50 cashback (that's how it reads).

What are these vouchers that Asda is offering?

Asda were offering the deal without having to claim vouchers at all, the offer from Asda is £129 (cash) when the online codes are entered on their website.

John Lewis chose to offer £50 cashback as a separate entity by voucher redemption both online and in store instead.

The reason for the furore is John Lewis have authorised the undersales, then say customers are not then entitled to the Special Offer as the Undersale negates the Special Offer, even when confirmed by JL they will be entitled to the vouchers as well.

John Lewis customers are reporting that JL have been inconsistent to say the least when you read their experiences on the HUKD website.

It is argued if the customer bought the item from John Lewis, they should then be able to apply for the "special offer" to claim the additional vouchers by redemption, making the deal £50 sweeter if bought from John Lewis.

That's a ridiculous argument, it's like saying you should be able to use two "50% off" vouchers and get something for free.

Either use JL's redemption offer or Asda's online voucher offer but you obviously can't use both and to complain otherwise is pretty pathetic. I would hope JL will reject all future such claims and I would 100% support them.

Not checked but .... I'd be surprised if the JL price match offer didn't include a term that excluded special offers/redemption codes.
  • Bit ridiculous to expect to double up on multiple offers and codes across retailers.

That's what I was thinking. It'd be like me saying "I could get this TV for £100 because I've got £300 worth of gift vouchers. Give me the TV and also £200."

I suppose the question is whether hot uk deals' claim was authorised by JL... if not, the negative PR it's generated could result in legal action.

Though I agree the response from JL should have been uniform, but I expect that's the downside of a place offering "personal customer service" and allowing their staff to exhibit judgement in individual cases rather than demanding they stick to the rules (see currys and pc world complaints where they adhere to policy not to 'personal judgement/this particular case')
  • Funny how you people are being so self righteous today, cuz I cant ever see you all bouncing about with glee when you take advantage of some glitch or other on various sites, and then advertise them on here....

hmmmm double standards comes to mind.... :A

Maybe you all were unaware of this offer, which was I will add, confirmed to me by JL on the telephone prior to me buying the tab.

Then JL moved the goalposts after 8 calls trying to clarify the deal again.

Well done An02daw for publicising this farce by John Lewis!!!! :T
  • I think the people on MSE are not commenting due to the fact that they haven't been in on the deal from the start and therefore can't see any need to get involved now.:undecided
