Question re: ground rent

Hi, my partner owned a property for the last 20years which he rented out for the past ten years...all that time no one has ever claimed any ground rent..sadly my partner died recently and i am now the owner, what i need to know is if no ground rent has been paid for so long what is the situation? does the leasehold become freehold? Thanks for any advice in advance:money:

    I'm really sorry for your loss :(

    I'm not entirely sure, but even with an 'absentee landlord' I believe that even if you attempted to extend the current lease, that the money would revert to the Crown before you were entitled to that freehold.

    There's a moneysaver who was looking at purchasing a property with a long lost freehold and a very short lease, but they had explained to me, via their solicitor, that the money for the lease extension would have reverted to Her Majesty if the freeholder could genuinely not be found.
