BT Installation - existing socket

Hi
Can anyone advise? I had a new line installation today with BT, after waiting in for 5 hours and taking the day off work, it turns out they had connected the existing socket at the exchange so did not need to come to the house. They have charged me the full installation charge for this - is this correct? Surely the previous tenant paid for the socket etc and I was under the impression the charge is only in place if they need to come to your premises?
Thanks

No, the charge is the same for a reconnection or a new physical line install. If they can use the existing line, they will. It is not usually necessary for them to visit the property, but you are asked to be present in case of problems and access is then needed.
They cannot know if a visit is needed until the day of connection. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

When you say the full install charge, is this the £130, or less than that, also when you ordered the line did you advise them of this existing socket,or did they ask you if the property had an existing line, and did you check if it had any service by plugging a phone into it and listening for dialtone ?0
