Unable to provide proof of pension dates

Hi all - wondered if anyone could offer advice on a benefit problem?

My mum has just called me saying she's being threatened with having her benefits stopped (PIP? It used to be IB/DLA) if she doesn't provide the date that her pension from her old work started. She doesn't have the paperwork because it was years ago and can't find it. Her benefit claim has also been running for years and this is completely out of the blue as far as I can tell.

She also says she's called the company paying the pension and they won't give her the dates unless she can answer some security questions which include... supplying the date when her pension started.

Has anyone else come across this problem? It would be madness to stop the claim because of a date - it's not like she's hiding the amount that she is currently getting! Any advice would be much appreciated

Thank you

Perhaps she should write to the Pension Administrators explaining the problem?

Her PIP won't stop because of a pension. Are you sure it's not her IB being swapped to ESA? If so there are rules on income and her pension is too much she may not be eligible for ESA.

Does she still have the same bank account? They might be able to trace when the pension payments started

I'm presuming you mean ESA? The pension your mother is recieving may make her uneligable for ESA and until they have all details they may suspend further payments until they have all details on the pension. You mother needs to maybe try and remember the date she finished work and check historical bank accounts or search for the pension letters she would of recieved prior to being paid.
It will best for your mother to write to the pension provider and get all details from them that way..start date, monthly/weekly payment amounts etc as this is what the DWP will be after.
  • This is all useful stuff - thank you all! This whole system is totally alien to me (hence my confusion over what the benefits are called - yes I think it is ESA) so it's great to be able to get some advice.
