energy switching -problems and comparison site issues

I am a BG customer with tariff ending 28th feb and EON with tariff ending 28th Oct. comparison site recomended OVO, Sainsburys and BG in that order as dual fuel customer. OVO has a few issues so thought I would stay with BG as tariff same as Sainsburys [Partnered].
However this is where there are limits with the comparison site.
BG want to do the switching in steps. I have to become a standard tariff dual Fuel customer first. They will get electricity transferred to BG from EON on standard Tariff, taking 5 to 6 weeks. In the meantime my current BG gas tariff will revert to standard rate on the 28th february. Eventually when they tell me the electricity is with them, I have to go back to them and request transfer to BG Dual fuel fixed rate discounted tariff.
But this assumes the tariff is still available , I could end up worse off! Plus paying standard rates for a minimum of 5 or 6 weeks even if tariff is available.

So I went to Sainsburys who although partnered with BG treat me as new customer. They will request both BG and EON transfer my supplies to them. BG will probably come across first and they will charge me only the dual fuel tarif. Also my initial direct debit will only reflect the Gas costs. When the electricity comes across they will add it the the dual fuel tariff and up my DD to the final amount then.

I had 2 days of calls with 5 BG people, with no ring back to then only spend 15 minutes with Sainsburys to do a verbal contract over the phone, and I have 7 days cooling off after receing the documents.

So why couldn't BG do this, their way is inefficient and costly to them?
