Problems with tablet and the seller....

Options
Hi. I bought my daughter a quantum 7 tablet back in November 2012 for her Christmas present... purchased from Tabtronics on Amazon. After minimal usage in August last year the tablet became faulty. I returned it, at my own cost, under the 12 month guarantee. They were unable to repair it and so they replaced it with a similar model in September 2012. This has now become faulty after minimal usage again. I emailed Tabtronics who have stated that this tablet was part of the original guarantee and that as the guarantee has now run out they will only repair the tablet if I pay. Can anyone advise what I should do next? I believe that this tablet should have lasted a lot longer and even though the guarantee has expired I feel that Tabtronics should be doing a bit more than telling me I have to pay to have it repaired.....

  • Seeing as you got the replacement in September 2012 and that is over a year ago you dont have a lot to help you really.
  • ah sorry, that was my mistake. I purchased the tablet in November 2012 and it was replaced with a similar model in September 2013

I would go back and politely state your case (including the relevant SOGA bits).
    Something along the lines of:-
    Thank you for your response.
I would have expected a tablet of such good quality [it doesn't hurt to add a little flannel now and again] to have alasted longer than the last 5 months.
According to the Sale of Good Act, goods must last a reasonable amount of time and I don't feel that this is the case.
Would you please reconsider your response in light of this new information?

Before you do that however, did you get any new paperwork/emails when you received the replacement tablet?

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

How much did the tablet originally cost?
  • Hi rmg1. Yes Ive got emails from when they replaced it.

Hi amillar. It wasn't an overly expensive one. I paid around £85 for it.

    Thankyou both for your replies

I think most people would 'reasonably expect' (SOGA) even an £85 tablet to last for longer than 15 months, regardless of the replacement.

The retailer seems to have offered to remedy this within the terms of the SOGA, unfortunately the replacement would have only had the guarantee within the timescale of the orginal purchase and wasn't reset to another year when it was replaced...

Its only the same as happens elsewhere - look at Apple, Microsoft Xbox's and Sony PS3's with faults - manufacturers will repair with warranty, outside of that they are chargeable - regardless of what may be reasonably expected.

I don't see this being any other way really.
  • yes the norm is the warranty runs from date of original purchase, regardless if they replace/repair the unit in day 364 of the warranty

But squeaky wheels often do get attention !
