Get credit back from EON

Hi all.

My first post so be gentle :)

Checked with Eon and found im £406.62 in credit with them, rang them up, and asked for it and was asked to provide up to date meter reading, did so, they they said i am only £36 in credit after taking of the outstanding amount.

I tried to argue that seeing as how on the 26th of every month you take £150 out, id like the £406 refunded and for Eon to use the monhtly dd to pay of my bill. They refused and said they will always use credit to pay of the bill?!?!?!?! Is this the case or have i just been taken for a ride  How do i get MY money refunded back to me???

Help...

  • DD's are there to pay off the bill. Over the summer you will use next to no energy, and will build up substantial credit. In winter, you will use approximately 70-80% of your annual energy in just 4 months. The credit built up over summer is used to pay this.

You have obviously used the energy, and it has to be paid for. If you have the credit back, they would only increase your DD to account for the fact that, because it's February, you are using far more than £150's worth of energy a month.

Are you submitting monthly meter readings? That is the best way to ensure payments are properly meeting bills, and will avoid situations like this

    Morning imran_ali,

    I think there's a bit of confusion here :o

From your post I can see you pay £150 monthly Direct Debit. These payments go on to your account and build up a credit (this is what you have seen as £406.62)

We then produce quarterly bills, so the credit you have paid in to your account is used to go towards the bill.

We ask for regular reads to make sure the account is billed up to date and accurately and also to help keep your Direct Debit set at the correct amount.

Just to add, the Direct Debit doesn't work in arrears, as you'd then always be paying for your usage and the debt, so the payments would be higher.

We wouldn't refund now, as the credit has gone towards paying the bill , which is how this works.

    Hope this helps to explain.

aaahhhhhh, that does make sense now actually, so, after 4 dd i have built up (obviously) x amount of credit, my bill comes out and the amount is taken of the credit that i have built up!

What happened was i saw the credit amount on the online app and thought great! not realising there is a bill to come out which will take up the credit i have built up!

Wish the customer service people i spoke to (TWO OF THEM) explained it as simple as you!

    Thanks

  • Another factor is that you were having your account recalculated the day before your DD is taken ... that means that the bill that was calculated includes all the gas/electricity consume last month but not the payment that is intended to cover this.

If you submit meter readings online be careful to do so after that months DD has been taken as submitting a meter reading a few days either side of the quarterly bill date will trigger the bill to be produced and, if as once happened to me, you give the reading before the DD has been credited to your account then the account may well be in debit and then the billing systems decides it needs to recalculate your DD to ensure that you can cover this debt and will tell you that its increasing your DD by 40-50%! Happened to me once though was sorted out by a quick call to Eon once I saw the bill asking them to rerun the DD calc since by then all the relevant DDs had been credited.
