Santander online banking confusion

Hi

I have had a savings account with Santander and also online banking for years.

Both of these were made clear when applying for my new 123 account, however, I have just received the letters for setting up online banking again.

I am going to ignore the new setup letters as the old online login works but this does not give me great faith in their systems!

I did a test transfer of £500 to the Santander from Barclays and this went through immediately.

I went back to Barclays and tried to transfer £13k but got the warning that this was above the daily allowed limit.

Tried with £10k but got a warning as I had already transferred the £500 earlier.

So tried again with £9,500 and got a warning that this would be delayed whilst fraud checks are undertaken.

Should I be pleased Barclays are so vigilent or annoyed that I couldn't carry out the transactions I wanted to do today?

These sorts of delays are quite normal. Although they do many instantly, banks have until the end of the next working day to execute faster payments.

Just an oversight, no big deal.

Phone Santander or go into a branch and ask for the new 123 account to be "linked" to your existing on-line savings account.

This will be done instantly. When you phone and you are logged-in, just refresh the page and the new account will show-up.

Catch 22. Rang an advised number but Santander would not recognise my old (and currently valid online) security code and would not initially speak to me.

Problem was I have not yet received my new security code in 'Letter 2' and the current security code used online was not acceptable for phone banking as it was in the process of being superceded!

I now have to wait until I get Letter 2 and then setup online banking again and the old credentials will then be invalid.

With the old credentials the new 123 account does show and I was able to credit it via Barclays online banking.

Have you looked to see if you can access your 123 account using your existing log on details.

This might seem obvious but I had a similar thing happen when I opened another account with Santander I received new log in details but my new account was there all the time.
If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!

Yes, I can see the new account with my old logon details but I can't talk to the bank phoneline with the old security code!

I asked if they could just cancel the new online details, but it seems that these are already in the process of being changed and I have to set it up again using the new code when Letter 2 comes.

Thanks. Is £10k transfer out per day maximum a limit for all UK banks? Are there any exceptions, please?

Not sure how up-to-date it is.

Don't be mislead by large limits - whilst technically possible, it would be advisable to notify your bank beforehand if you want to transfer anything larger, say above £10K (or above £9,999).

Just tried to pay a bill from a Coop account to Lloyds bank. Way less than £5K - - payment status is "unknown", Reason Code I (Outcome not available, please check later).

Never had any bank hold up an amount of less than £10K before - so the Coop theoretical £100K limit/day is quite meaningless.

Just had a call from Barclays to check the possible fraudulent transfer of over £10k to Santander.

I explained what had happened and asked if I could transfer more than £10k at a time. They said 'Yes' just tell us first.

As the call was being recorded I couldn't help saying..." and if your current account was giving me 3% interest I wouldn't be transferring out"....especially as I had a call from them the other day saying "Do you realise how much is in your current account?" ! :p
