I rent small 1 - 2 bed bungalow 20 odd years old. Has convection heaters in hallway, two bedrooms, lounge. Moved in 3 weeks ago and have received Electricity Bill for £130. I don't use the ones in the hall, or 2nd bed, and occ for 10 mins in main bedroom. Top half of lounge is like a sauna, bottom half very cold. Have to sit with a blanket over legs in evening. Any ideas to help with costs would be appreciated. Am thinking of getting one of those floor heaters which would at least start by heating ground level before rising to ceiling.

Did you give a meter reading when you moved in? And is the bill based on a second, accurate meter reading?0

Thanks for commenting. Yes to both. When I first moved in I did use the dryer part of the washing machine 3 - 4 times as I had no room to set up the airer. Also the immersion is on all the time as was a heated towel rail in the bathroom. I have now turned this off as there is a wall heater for when I shower alt. days. (not an electric shower). I am a pensioner, on my own so don't use washing machine above a couple times a week, plus sheets etc. No gas.
Prev had large bungalow but monthly bills were £70, inc gas.
Would it help to not use convection heater in lounge and buy small floor heater?0 -
Those heaters are using electric at normal day rates, heating a house or flat with electric is best off with night storage heaters as it uses cheap rate during night, sorry but it sounds right. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
